Synopsis

In a contemporary Japan where magic and magic users are commonplace, Kikuchi Yume travels to Tokyo to become a fully trained and officially certified magic user.

Impressions

This is a lovely, quiet little show. It isn’t about saving the world or falling in love but about being comfortable in your own skin. The title translates as “Things Important to a Magic User.” And that is the story, Yume finding out why being a magic user is important to her.

The character designs are mostly nice, though I’m not fond of Yume’s friend Angela. Yume herself is very cute and has hair antennae, which is an excellent ingredient in the recipe for kawaii. As a series without a lot of action, the animation is mostly subdued—except for certain CG elements that appear often—but still fits the story well.

The ED is a wonderful pop-folk song called “Under the Blue Sky” by The Indigo.

Random Thoughts

I’ve heard that some people are disturbed by Angela’s similarity to the title character in Witch Hunter Robin.

Addendum: Having now seen Robin, the similarity is obvious. Not only do they share the same seiyuu, their personalities are identical. No biggie.
