Synopsis

When she was a newborn baby, Yuushi was found by a victorious warrior following a shining light on the battlefield. He raised her for seventeen years. Unfortunately, her body stopped growing seven years too early and she looks like a ten-year-old. That’s not all bad, though, because she is luckily chosen to be one of the candidates for Platinum Princess, who wears a magical tiara capable of granting any wish.

But wait! There are plenty of other candidates going to school with her—including Grenda, Yuushi’s arc-rival and princess of Hell who also seems to have fallen into a body too young for her soul—so she must work extra-hard to win her spot.

Impressions

Puchi Puri Yuushi is based on Gainax’s Princess Maker games. If not for that connection, Gainax would never touch an obvious children’s anime like this with a thousand-foot Lance of Longinus.

It is very cute, though without the over-the-top sweetness you’ll find in, say, Pita Ten or Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar. Unfortunately, since it is a kids’ show, the episodes are painfully repetitive without really accomplishing much. Being Gainax and being rooted in Princess Maker you’d expect the anime to throw a bone to the older fans occassionally, but except for PM in-jokes that easily dart over my head (I’ve never played the games) there doesn’t seem to be anything.

Technically, it’s a very good looking anime. It just lacks enough depth to keep an adult watching.

Random Thoughts

I no longer have plans to finish this series. Alas, it just couldn’t keep me interested.
