Synopsis

Upon returning to Japan after studying her craft in Italy, the young witch Robin begins her work for STN-J, a semi-secret quasi-govermental organization charged with hunting and capturing rogue witches.

Impressions

Witch Hunter Robin immediately brings to mind anime like Hellsing and Noir because, if nothing else, it has style by the bucketfull. WHR’s plot evolves slowly at first, much like Noir’s, following a mostly monster-of-the-week motif until the table is set and the guests are all seated. While I stayed thoroughly engrossed from episode one, this first half—as with Noir—is where the series will lose the most viewers. Those who are happy to ride along on the strength of the characters and ambiance will be rewarded as the second half as the plot picks up not in pace but in intensity and complexity to become a very satisfying anime.

Boggle: When riding her Vespa, how does Robin stuff her hair handles inside her helmet?
