Synopsis
Welcome to the Lilian School for girls, a sprawling campus of cherry and gingko trees encompassing grades from kindergarten through college.
Winter break is over, which means graduation time is here. As the Roses move on to college, the line of succession advances, with Sachiko, Rei, and Shimako as the new Rosas Chinesis, Foetida, and Gigantea.
Impressions
“Oh, onee-sama, who I have known but a year and who will be about 100 yards away in the Catholic College, how will I ever go on without you in my life?”
In spite of the often overexaggerated melodrama and no more narrative drive than Azumanga Daioh, Marimite is uncannily attractive. It is a wonderful story of relationships. And while I may have poo-poo’d the level of character study in season one, Haru makes me think I may have been overly critical. The in-depth study of the Gigantea line (Sei, Shimako, and the new Rosa Gigantea En Bouton Petite Soeur) which makes up a good chunk of this season is fascinating.
Random Thoughts
The whole Catholic-school-in-Japan business still weirds me out.
